The holiday season is right around the corner again, and that can only mean one thing: pickle-flavored fries?
At least that’s how McDonald’s plans to celebrate the holiday this year (and various other holidays) with what they’re calling a “Grinch Meal.” The meal, inspired by Dr. Seuss’s famous Christmas creations, includes either a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, plus a medium drink and “McShaker Pickle and Pickle Salt Fries” — that is, regular French fries with a packet of “Grinch Salt” seasoning to slather yourselves on.
McDonald’s meals should always come with some sort of prize too, of course. The Grinch meal includes four different pairs of socks – red, green, blue and yellow. I think you could pour some Grinch salt on your socks too if you’re feeling scared.

I’ve loved pickle-flavored snacks (have you tried the Flamin’ hot Dill Pickle Cheetos? Sublime) so I’m all for these pickle — excuse me, “Grinch Salt” — French fries. But why don’t we go further with… Grinch Themes? Big Mac or old McNuggets? What about a green burger? Green cake? Green dipping sauce? Make it green guys, come on.
McDonald’s isn’t the first restaurant chain to try to capitalize on the popularity of the holidays Grinch. A few years ago, IHOP had a full menu of… Grinch Food (including green pancakes) inspired by the animated film version. Lost in a fugue state after gorging myself on a Who-Roast Beast omelette (don’t ask) I began writing in verse in the style of Dr. Seuss. It took days for my mind to return to normal.
If you expand on all of Dr. Seuss’s creations, there are even more foods associated with them. You really haven’t lived to see Horton hears who Donuts from IHOP for this movie. They came with a lollipop and a rainbow of exotic sauces. Just as Dr. Seuss requested.
The Grinch will be available at McDonald’s starting December 2.
