Disney World Zootopia Not exactly pristine paradise. Different animal species live in harmony, but only up to a point. They still need a police force to maintain law and order. There is still some form of capitalist economy. The new sequel makes it very clear that there are still haves and have-nots. Really the word “Zootopia” It’s less of a description of the place and more of an accurate pun — because the only people who might truly feel like they’ve found utopia are those who enjoy corny animal puns and deliberately corny dad jokes.
Let me put it this way. Suppose there is a world inhabited entirely by animals. Suppose that in this world there is a road sign for a place called “New Jersey.” If this mask makes you laugh, congratulations! Zootopia 2 It is yours.
Absolutely, yes, technically Zootopia 2 Dedicated to your children. It’s a colorful, lively and very busy animated film about talking animals. But while the adventures of these creatures keep kids busy, much of the film’s humor, tucked into the nooks and crannies of the frame, is squarely aimed at their parents and guardians, at least those who like ear-stimulating wordplay. As a certified dad (and certified dad joke teller), I have to admit that even though I don’t necessarily call it Zootopia 2 As a watershed moment in the history of American animation, I will laugh many times, and generally enjoy my return to this land of animals and its animal-related puns.

Although nine years have passed since the release of the first part ZootopiaThis sequel takes place just one week after its finale, when Zootopia Police Department rookie Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) officially partners with former con artist Fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). They previously teamed up to uncover a very likely metaphorical conspiracy within Zootopia’s government, where a seemingly meek sheep has seized power by making the population fear the fearsome-looking predators in their midst. This time, Judy and Nick must literally fulfill the metaphorical mission set throughout the film: prove that their previous success wasn’t a fluke by repeating it.
With their tough boss at the ZPD (Idris Elba) threatening to split up Judy and Nick after something goes wrong, the pair must prove the worth of their partnership while investigating the appearance of a snake in Zootopia. All creepers are generally not welcome within the city limits, and must remain in their own swampy neighborhood called Marsh Market. After said snake (voiced with charming innocence by Ke Huy Quan) crashes a ceremony honoring 100 years since the city’s founding, our heroes find themselves in the middle of another surprisingly complex mystery, one that threatens to upend the very nature of their century-old civilization.
Disney[/caption]Lots of Zootopia 2The creative team, including co-directors Jared Bush and Byron Howard, worked on the first film also. Both films deploy their layered world of speaking animals as symbolic life lessons that are not violently directed by anyone. in case Zootopia 2It includes scenes about the evils of apartheid and greedy land grabbing. Most of this will go straight over the heads ZootopiaThe target audience, who will be more interested in whether or not Judy or Nick will solve their latest case and strengthen their fragile relationship. But then again, some parents might miss it too; The plot (and puns) fly by so quickly that viewers have little time to think about the larger meaning of the story.
Those sub-places Zootopia 2 In the tradition of many detective films throughout history, overall, this franchise functions as a sort of Baby’s First Buddy Cop Movie. The lively but assertive Judy and the laconic but sarcastic Nick make classic mismatched partners, and Goodwin and Batman’s energies are delightfully skewed for maximum comedic friction. While Nick and Judy’s banter is much less raunchy (and contains plenty of rude dad jokes) than, say, Murtaugh and Riggs from Lethal weaponthe character dynamics are pretty much the same.
The film’s story is full of chase scenes and includes a surprising amount of gun violence for a movie about a rabbit and a fox running after a snake. (Cops’ rifles fire tranquilizer darts instead of bullets, but still.) Zootopia 2 Rarely slowing down to allow the audience to fully appreciate them, there are fun voice performances as well, including Patrick Warburton as the extremely muscular horse who becomes the new mayor of Zootopia, Maurice LaMarche as a Godfather -style crime boss, and Fortune Feimster as a jovial beaver who hosts a conspiracy theory show on EweTube, and teams up with Judy and Nick to solve the snake case.
This could explain why as well Zootopia 2 Turns out it’s better than other recent Disney series like Moana 2 and Mufasa: lion king. These films may have drawn from stronger source material, but they weren’t a great fit for ongoing franchises. Stories about heroes on epic quests of discovery and self-actualization rarely happen unless you plot those quests across multiple films. However, with buddy cops, there’s always another case. Add enough new wrinkles — like reptilian characters (and reptile-related jokes) — and as long as the action is exciting and the audience cares about the characters, they can keep solving mysteries forever.
Disney clearly thinks so; Zootopia 2 It ends with a very strong reference to that Zootopia 3 It will arrive in the near future. Instead of Gnu Jersey, maybe next time Judy and Nick can visit Arizona. Or Colorado. Or chicagot. Keep those animal puns coming, guys. I can’t get enough of them.
