With the mysterious and creepy dolls continuing to be hugely popular around the world, Sony has struck a deal to develop a film based on the property.
according to Hollywood Reporter“, the studio acquired the screen rights to the Chinese doll brand with the intention of making a movie, thus successfully launching a franchise.”
They don’t have any details about the story or the creators at this point, nor whether the movie will be live-action or animated. (Sony’s animation studio is behind recent major hits such as Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse and Demon hunters in kpop.)
These little creatures originated in China in the late 2010s, then blossomed into full-fledged pop culture in the past few years after they began being sold by Chinese toy company Pop Mart, which offers Laboobos in blind boxes.

Labubus wouldn’t be the first toy brand to be turned into a movie. In recent years, action figures and board games have become a complete subset of the blockbuster industrial complex. We have got movies based on well known gaming brands like GI Joe, transformers, Ouija, warship, American girl dolls, Sausagesand Trolls. There was also a small movie based on Barbie dolls that grossed $1.4 billion alone. (Heard of it?)
In that film environment, obviously someone He was going to try to make a Labubu movie. The only remaining question now is whether the project has actually reached production – and whether Labubus is still a hot property by the time it’s ready for wide release.
