When Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of the biggest and highest-paid stars in Hollywood in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Arnold Schwarzenegger was not the most respected actor of his generation. His films have been very popular in theaters and home video. It was also largely dismissed as violent fast food, with Schwarzenegger himself treated like a joke, little more than a silly accent contained in a cartoonishly bloated body.
However, 30 years later, most of his violent fast food items have aged like fine wine, and have matured into some of the most beloved role models of their era. A decade ago, when I wrote an article here on ScreenCrush insisting that Arnold Schwarzenegger was a serious, underappreciated artist, it seemed like a bold move. (Admittedly, not all of these films were winners.)
But many of Schwarzenegger’s most interesting films are those that go beyond his traditional classics. Here are ten of Schwarzenegger’s favorite underrated and under-seen titles from his early Hollywood beginnings to some of his more recent efforts. Instead of going to the chuppah, go see these movies.
