There’s one thing that always gets overlooked when cinephiles complain that movies aren’t what they used to be: the lost art of the end credits bug. Most films have bloopers included in the home video release’s special features, along with all sorts of other interviews with cast and crew, special effects details, and other cool stuff that was lost with the phasing out of physical media. Putting a blooper over the credits was one way to make sure your audience definitely saw it. It was also a way to highlight how making a film is a fun, funny, and collaborative experience.
There’s something endearing about showing excerpts over the credits at the end of a film, signaling to the audience that nothing they’ve just seen shouldn’t be taken even slightly seriously. (Of course, most bloopers are shown at the end of comedies anyway.) There’s something human about watching famous celebrities engage in fits of laughter over failed lines or silly commercials, and laughing with the cast and crew off-camera almost makes you feel like you’re right there on set with them, having a good time.
We’ve selected the top ten most entertaining bloopers, from action comedies to political satires to childhood animated classics. They’re all very different, with some highlighting great comedians at the peak of their powers while others focus on silly alternate takes of certain scenes, but they’re all equally hilarious windows into the messy process of making a movie.
