How many times have you heard a horror director publicly defend his work by claiming that he “made the film for fans, not critics”? Too many! Guys, no director makes a film for critics. There are only 12 working film critics left in the world, and they don’t pay for their own movie tickets. Unless you’re aiming to make a movie that will gross $216 at the worldwide box office, making a movie for critics is a pretty stupid idea.
also: Film critics Like movies. This may seem like a difficult concept to understand for some moviegoers, but it is absolutely true. No one gets into the underpaid or highly competitive field of criticism because they hate movies. Why would they subject themselves to hours and hours of misery otherwise? Unless you’re a masochist and really enjoy being poor, it’s not a smart career path.
Additionally, if you look at a site like Rotten Tomatoes, you can see quite clearly that film critics love a lot of movies, including a lot of genres they supposedly despise like horror. And they don’t just prefer historical titles by respected authors like Alfred Hitchcock mental patient Or John Carpenter Halloween also. No no. I’m talking exploitation films, monster movies, “torture porn”, sequels, prequels, and more. I’ve collected 10 such examples below. And I can assure you: I made this list for fans, not critics.
